Pigment volume concentration (PVC)
The share of a dry paint film's volume taken up by pigments and fillers.
PVC compares the volume of pigments and fillers with the total volume of solids in the dried film. It strongly affects gloss, porosity and durability.
Because paint is formulated by volume, the density of a filler matters. Barite is much denser than calcite, so the same weight of barite takes up less volume in the film.
