Filler (extender)
A mineral powder added to paints, plastics and other products to add volume or improve properties.
Fillers, also called extenders, are usually white mineral powders such as barium sulphate, calcium carbonate, talc or kaolin. They are not primarily used for colour, but they affect properties such as hardness, density, gloss, chemical resistance and cost.
Barium sulphate is chosen where chemical inertness, high density and a clean white are needed.
