Blanc fixe

Synthetic, precipitated barium sulphate, produced by chemical reaction rather than mined.

Blanc fixe, French for "permanent white", is barium sulphate made by precipitation. It typically has a very fine and uniform particle size and high whiteness. It is used in paints and varnishes, as a filler in printing inks, plastics and rubber, and as a coating pigment for paper.

In customs classification, precipitated barium sulphate falls under chapter 28 (chemicals), while natural barite falls under heading 2511.
