Where Turkish barite goes: export data for 2023 and 2024
Türkiye is the world's fourth largest barite exporter by volume. Customs data shows who buys it and how its prices compare.

One caution: these export volumes are higher than the production figure USGS reports for Türkiye, about 261,000 tonnes in 2024.4 Stock movements and differences in how each source counts material can explain gaps like this, so the two numbers should not be compared directly.
Who buys Turkish barite
The list follows oil and gas activity. Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Egypt, Algeria, Argentina and Norway all have active drilling sectors. The European buyers, Italy and Germany, also have large paint and coatings industries.
How Turkish export prices compare
Dividing export value by export volume gives an average unit value for each country. In 2024, Türkiye's barite exports averaged about $202 per tonne, against about $86 for India, $113 for Morocco and $168 for China.3
Unit values mix different products. A tonne of crude lump barite and a tonne of ground or micronized barite are counted under the same code. A higher average usually means a larger share of processed, ground product, but the data does not split this out.
Where the deposits are
The General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA) names four main barite districts in Türkiye: Alanya and Gazipaşa, Konya and Isparta, Muş, and Kahramanmaraş. In the Konya and Isparta district, the deposits are veins with BaSO4 content between 62% and 99% and strontium oxide between 0.5% and 3%.5
