XRF (X-ray fluorescence)
An analytical method that measures the elemental composition of a sample using X-rays.
When a sample is exposed to X-rays, each element in it emits secondary X-rays at characteristic energies. An XRF spectrometer measures these to calculate the composition.
We use XRF on samples from our mine sites to determine BaSO4 purity and the content of CaO, SiO2, Fe2O3, SrO, Al2O3, Na2O, MgO and K2O.
