Whiteness and brightness
Measures of how white and bright a powder appears, used to grade fillers for paints and coatings.
Whiteness and brightness are measured with a colour instrument under standard lighting. Common values include the whiteness index (WI CIE), the yellowness index (YI) and L*a*b* colour coordinates.
In barite, whiteness is mainly affected by iron oxide content. We measure whiteness, yellowness, brightness and L*a*b* values on an X-Rite 7000.
