Mud weight
The density of a drilling fluid, usually given in pounds per gallon (ppg), kg/m³ or specific gravity.
Mud weight is chosen so that the pressure of the fluid column is high enough to control formation pressure, but not so high that it fractures the rock. Weighting agents such as barite are added to raise it.
Our barite requirement calculator estimates how much barite is needed to raise a given volume of mud from one weight to another.
